Preserving Tradition - - - Embracing Change
Bells have been heard ringing out from churches for hundreds of years calling parishioner's to worship, celebratory peals, a sombre tolling in time of mourning and a reminder that time is passing us by as those chimes sound the hour of the day.
West Monkton Church along with Cheddon Fitzpaine, Kingston St Mary are lucky enough to still have regular bells ringing for their services. Broomfield which makes up the four parishes for the South Quantock Benefice has occasional ringing via ringers from neighbouring towers.
Many towers stand silent due to a lack of experienced ringers and towers with a ringing team are always actively looking to recruit new ringers to train and learn the art of bell ringing.
If you would like to try bell ringing then come along to one of our weekly practice sessions to see what's involved and have a try for yourself with our friendly group of ringers and experienced teachers.
Click on the bells and we will put you in contact our Tower Captain - Pearl Jeanes for more information.
In celebration of the King's Coronation the team of
bell ringers at West Monkton Church joined other churches across the country in
'Ring for the King'
