Closed Churchyard Bench Appeal

A place to remember them or take time for you.

The peaceful surroundings of our churchyard is a special place to remember and reflect on those we have lost or to take time out when things in life get a little too much.

Our sadly missed family and friends do not always need to be near us to be close to our hearts. Somewhere which feels special to you, or was to them, can bring them close to you again even if only in our memories.

There is no right or wrong way to mourn. We are all different and the impact of losing that special person in our life plays out very differently for each of us.

For some, our day to day lives can leave us feeling pressured, overwhelmed or even vulnerable and we may just need a quiet moment for ourselves.

We are planning to install six benches in the closed churchyard to provide peaceful places to sit for reflection, recall those happy times or just chat. The benches will be accessible via a mown grass path.

As the benches will be permanently outdoors we are opting for a hardwood variety such as teak to provide long lasting durability. This, inevitably, costs more than a softwood bench but will last considerably longer.

If you wish to purchase a bench, in memory of a loved one, we can arrange for wording to be carved into the bench or on a plaque*.

We do not want the cost to be a barrier for those who wish to remember a loved one, so we will be offering two benches made up of shares, allowing a number of donors to purchase a share in the bench. These benches will have a general sentiment engraving with a plaque alongside the bench listing the loved ones being remembered.

*Wood engraving extra

** Bench locations, as per churchyard plan, are on a first come first serve basis.

Help make that space.
