Preserving Tradition - - - Embracing Change
What a great way to round off our summer events this year, then with an afternoon BBQ with the village and church community.
The sun was kind and not too hot for our burger binging bunch and luckily for Gary and Colin our amazing BBQ Masterchefs the shade of the Yew tree was most welcome when standing over a smoky hot grill.
Once the amazing half pound burgers, honey and mustard sausages and beetroot burgers were washed down with the Pimms, it was time for outdoor skittles. (Thank you to Stuart and West Monkton Parish Council) If we were to recruit the best players for a local team, we would need a prayer every week. (More practice me thinks!)
As the winner was declared after the 'Skittle off' and overjoyed with their prize of bags of 'Skittle' sweets the rest off us enjoyed dessert.
Thank you to everyone who helped on the day and those who came along and made it a great afternoon.
See you next year - 3pm Saturday 29th August 2026!
We always have lots going on throughout the year. Check out our Upcoming events and service pages.
Bring your Union flags for an evening of great tunes as we welcome back Wiveliscombe Town Band.
With a glass of wine included in your ticket price, sit back and enjoy some great british traditional tunes. We may not be the Royal Albert Hall hosting 'Last Night of the Proms' but this will be nearly as good, more fun and just on your doorstep. Bar available.
Tickets on sale now. Click on the pic
Some crops have faired better than others after a very warm summer and as some of us pray for rain to quench the parched ground and fill the all but trickling streams, we come together to give thanks for this years harvest. Join us to for our service of thanks with food donations and apple crumble after the service.
Bells have been heard ringing out from churches for hundreds of years calling parishioner's to worship, celebratory peals, a sombre tolling in time of mourning and a reminder that time is passing us by as those chimes sound the hour of the day.
West Monkton Church along with Cheddon Fitzpaine, Kingston St Mary are lucky enough to still have regular bells ringing for their services. Broomfield which makes up the four parishes for the South Quantock Benefice has occasional ringing via ringers from neighbouring towers.
Many towers stand silent due to a lack of experienced ringers and towers with a ringing team are always actively looking to recruit new ringers to train and learn the art of bell ringing.
If you would like to try bell ringing then come along to one of our weekly practice sessions to see what's involved and have a try for yourself with our friendly group of ringers and experienced teachers.
Click on the bells and we will put you in contact our Tower Captain - Pearl Jeanes for more information.

The Parochial Church Council are invited to tell our meaningful story and mission in order to apply for grant funding for the re ordering project within St Augustine’s Church.
The Trustees of the charities we apply to suggest we cover areas such as : What we are doing , Why we are doing it , What we aspire to do differently , What are our aspirations , Who is benefitting from our missional outreach and how we will ensure the sustainability beyond charity funding.
The Joseph Rank Trust , amongst others we are applying to , as recommended by the Bath and Wells Diocese, recommends we place a short video on our website which explains our work, as a video can really add value to an application and highlight our objectives.
A small team from the PCC are carrying out this work of making grant applications and have produced our video which we can add to our applications and ensure our success .
Thank you for watching.
We welcome everyone to help in whatever way they can with this massive fundraising effort.
No matter your talent, how big or small, there is a place for you amongst our passionate friendly volunteers.
We would love to hear from you.
Have you heard about the Turquoise Cardigan Club?
Yes, it really is a thing!
We are a small team working on grant applications to raise funds towards the re-ordering of the back of the church.
The cost of the re-ordering is about £100,000.00. That’s right - £100k. That’s a lot of events and coffee mornings!
But there are loads of Charitable Trusts with funds to award for projects such as ours. We use the CofE Cornerstone Directory of Funders, provided by the Diocese, Somerset Community Fund information and any other information that comes our way.
We meet every now and then, usually in the evening, for a couple of hours.
Since we started grant applications in 2023 we have raised over £30,000.00, which has mended the Lady Chapel Roof, installed the new boiler, paid for the pipework.
Would you like to join our team? you don’t have to have a turquoise cardigan!
Please contact Tricia for an informal chat.
